Day 0 of 60 (8/21/23)

For the past several years, I’ve been into triathlons. Doing a handful of IRONMAN 70.3’s and one IRONMAN 140.6. Many of you have supported me along the way in many ways! Thank you!

Today I feel pretty fit and healthy. I focus on healthy eating. And going for a long run or bike ride isn't a big deal.

Also, for the past several years, I haven’t been doing any resistance training at all. My goals haven’t been to be bigger, so I’ve always thought that there’s no need for me to lift weights. Just swim, bike, and run.

But the more I’ve read about health and longevity, the more I’ve realized how resistance training plays a key role in a more balanced, functional lifestyle. I want to be fit, functional, and strong for as long as possible.

If not for me, for Courtney and John. :)

Starting today, I’m doing an 8-week challenge to build more muscle. Utilizing SimplyFit for workouts & MacroFactor to make sure I’m hitting protein goals.

Here’s the basic plan:

  • Strength training five times a week via the @simplyfitai app

  • Increase protein intake to get 1 gram per lb. of body weight

I’m excited to see and feel the difference it makes!

I’m a normal person. No personal trainer, no expensive diet, having a family, and running a startup. But I believe that by combining my existing lifestyle with some guidance from @simplyfitai, I can achieve a new fitness level and continue building a strong foundation for a long and functional life!

Day 1 of 60 (8/22/23)

Day 1 in the books!

I got up this morning and took pictures and a few measurements. I’ll be weighing in every morning and doing biweekly check-ins on waist circumference, shoulder circumference, Suprailiac skinfold, and Abdomen skinfold.

We’ll see what changes can be made in just eight weeks!

Great first workout in SimplyFit.

After today’s workout, I’m especially looking forward to getting stronger with pull-ups.

3 sets of 5 was doable but not easy. Then finishing the workout with 60-second dead hangs was surprisingly hard.

I think I’ll make good strides in grip strength since it’s particularly neglected in swim/bike/run.

Looking forward to another great workout tomorrow!

Day 2 of 60 (8/23/23)

Great workout! My legs felt strong from cycling, but some movements were new.

Finishing with wall sits blasted my legs in an especially new way!

———————

Day 3 of 60 (8/24/23)

Solid workout today! I love working shoulders.

I used a new SimplyFit feature to add a few exercises to the workout; that was cool.

Might start incorporating more core work.

I’ll see what SimplyFit suggests. Just three days down!

Excited to keep going!

Day 4 of 60 (8/25/23)

Another solid workout!

Pull-ups are noticeably stronger already; A lot more to go, but it’s great to see and feel good progress already.

I was surprised by the Farmer’s Walk finisher. It was great to blast grip strength.

Day 5 of 60 (8/26/23)

Some of you 90's kids might recognize today’s ab workout.

Day 6 of 60 (8/27/23)

For light Sunday recovery, I asked SimplyFit for a 30-minute stretching and mobility routine.

It was especially good to work on hip mobility.

———————

Day 7 of 60 (8/28/23)

Late night workout this time. Solid chest pump.

First time I’ve done less than eight reps in a set for a while (aside from Pull-Ups)!

Definitely feeling stronger!

———————

Day 8 of 60 (8/29/23)

Another late-night workout!

I think it would do me good to get back on the morning schedule, but I’m happy to be staying consistent daily!

———————

Day 9 of 60 (8/30/23)

I was feeling worn down from several late nights in a row.

SimplyFit gave a lighter load of exercises and finished with 20 minutes of stretching and mobility.

———————

Day 11 of 60 (9/1/23)

Great session! It was just what I needed.

Shoulders and a little core work! Loved it.

Just about two weeks in, and I only wish I had started sooner!

Day 15 of 60 (9/5/23)

———————

Day 16 of 60 (9/6/23)

Happy to get a morning workout in!

Makes for a great start to the day. I’m feeling stronger with pull-ups.

Dead hangs were a killer on my grip again!

———————

Day 18 of 60 (9/8/23)

Solid workout. I felt lightheaded for some reason.

Maybe I need to eat a little more before workouts.

It’s now been 18 days and it’s going well!
